Sindh Police Chief Reports 78 of 213 Escaped Prisoners from Karachi’s Malir Jail Recaptured

On Monday night, over 200 inmates escaped from the District Prison Malir in Karachi, as reported by the Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police. The escape involved 213 prisoners, of whom 78 have since been recaptured by law enforcement authorities. According to the provincial police chief, one inmate was shot dead and two others were injured during the recapture efforts. The police stated that the prisoners managed to break through the prison’s security barriers, leading to a large-scale manhunt. Security forces have been deployed in the surrounding areas to locate and apprehend the remaining escapees. The incident has raised concerns about prison security and prompted an internal investigation into how the breakout occurred. Malir District Prison is one of the major correctional facilities in Karachi, and such a large-scale escape is considered a significant security breach. Authorities are continuing their search for the remaining fugitives and have increased security measures at other detention centers across the province.
