Pakistan PM Warns Against Suspension of Indus Waters Treaty by India

On Friday, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan would not permit India to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty. This statement was reported by the PTI news agency, citing local media sources. The Indus Waters Treaty, signed in 1960 between India and Pakistan and brokered by the World Bank, governs the sharing of water from the Indus River system. In April, India suspended its participation in the treaty following a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people. The suspension of the treaty has raised concerns about water security and regional stability, as the Indus River system is a critical water source for both countries. The Prime Minister's remarks come a day after Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, also addressed the issue. The situation remains tense, with both countries emphasizing their positions regarding the treaty's status and the broader implications for bilateral relations.
