Alcohol Increases Risk of Pancreatic Cancer, UN Study Reports

A recent study conducted by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), part of the World Health Organization (WHO), has identified a correlation between alcohol consumption and an elevated risk of pancreatic cancer. The research analyzed health data from approximately 2.5 million individuals from Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America. The findings indicate that individuals who consume alcoholic beverages, particularly beer and spirits, may have a higher likelihood of developing pancreatic cancer compared to non-drinkers. Pancreatic cancer is known for its poor prognosis and high mortality rate, making the identification of modifiable risk factors, such as alcohol consumption, significant for public health. The study adds to existing evidence that alcohol is a risk factor for several types of cancer, and highlights the importance of awareness and preventive measures.
