Japanese Private Lander Attempts Historic Moon Landing

At 3:17 p.m. ET, the Resilience lunar lander, built by Japan-based company Ispace, attempted a landing on the moon. Mission controllers have not reestablished contact with the spacecraft. If successful, this would be the first time a private-sector lunar lander built outside the United States lands on the moon, highlighting the increasing involvement of private companies in space missions traditionally led by governments.
